This friend of mine is a gifted artist. He came here to attend a print-making seminar in USM. If you were to look at a picture under the caption RAHMAN, that picture is his first work. I waited but no one asked anything about that piece which is actually something very political.
Never mind, he just sent me another piece of his work entitled Yellow Submarine which I am including here and would like you to have a real good look it and maybe give your interpretation of what this print is all about.

i swear (and i mean it) the RAHMAN art piece did bother me to bits as i couldnt make out of where exactly is the hidden message behind it. I thought everybody knew so not wanting to look stupid, I refrained myself from asking a possible silly question…hehehe… anyway since i'm not good at interpreting most complicated art works, naturally the second from mr chung is even mind-boggling.
Kerp,
Well lets just say the RAHMAN is a jibe at the Rahman theory being a little brittle now. Above it are jawi alphabets which could mean Anwar or Najib?
As for the Yellow submarine the character with his mask and the kiddy submarine should tell a story.
Salam Cikgu,
Hmm...like kerpie, I too did noticed the first art piece but somehow it just did not register anything.
As for the Yellow Submarine: I see the rising figure to be a monster who is just about to pull the submarine into the deep blue; the yellow submarine here could mean either Malaysia as a whole, or just the sarkas, which I pray it is.
I vaguely recall there is a song call.."yellow submarine" and a comedy movie too....in the early 60's.
It is about a faulty..Russian submarine accidentally landed on an English shore...and all hell went loose.
The painting reflexes...a sea monster..feeling happy to find something so large to eat.
First he has to create a tsunami...to make sure all the eatable stuffs are thrown out...and the ship ..name..'Titanic'...will sink to the bottom of the sea.
The sea monster look like Samy Vellu!!
He is a traitor to his captian......hahahahaha
Cikgu, you did not respon to my inquiry - its alright - dia sendiri (Chung)dah kontek saya
They say that the first time the artist paints an artwork, only he understands it; after it is put in an exhibition, only the critics understand it and after that only God understands it. My work is a takeoff from the animated feature film based on the music of the Beatles. Anyone who grew up in the sixties will remember such beautiful songs as 'When I am Sixty four, Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds" sung by the Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band in the film. My old friend Alhusseyn who is a guitar maestro himself will sure appreciate the music. Me ? I am just a draw-er.
I think its best that Mr. Chung himself answers. As for me, the man with the mask is a crook and the submarine, being a kiddy submarine, is useless and the man smiles because he made a bundle.
mr chung,
yes sir, how can we not remember Yellow submarine by the beatles. i may not be from that generation but my dad himself was a guitarist, and of cos, great beatle fan till now (?).
if you're a football fan however, a different Yellow Submarine sure to come to mind. its Villareal FC's unofficial nick name.
i think an art is free for everyone to think of it as whatever they think fit. (in another words...I dunno what it mean la...other than a monster trying to eat submarine..hehe). But salute to the creator, printmaking art is tedious hence a good one like that takes a lot of effort.
