What a day.

I am writing this at about 1.30 this morning. Couldn't sleep. Why? Well, there must be a reason, right?

Well you see, my baby, the youngest one is to be engaged this evening. Yes, my little girl, my manja girl is to be engaged and InsyaAllah next year, she would be married.

It seems that it was only yesterday, she was still feeding from the bottle and today she is a big girl, ready to face the world on her own. It is both a happy and sad thing for me.

Happy because she is getting hitched to someone of her choice. She obviously loves him a lot and I like the boy too.

Sad because it won't be long before next year rears its head to take my baby away from me. I can't help it, I can't help thinking about it. Anyway, to her, I wish her all the happiness.

Now, for a twist to this story, yesterday at about 3.20pm I received a call from her sister. My blood almost drained when my eldest daughter said that my youngest met with an accident somewhere near the centre span of the Penang Bridge. My baby wasn't hurt but the car was badly smashed up. I was in class at that time. All I could think of was to go to her.

I immediately left the class and met the PK Petang who ordered me to go to my daughter immediately. To Mr. Tuan, thank you for being an understanding boss. Then I realised that the Pengetua was also in her office so it wouldn't be proper for me to leave without informing her. She too was as understanding as Mr. Tuan.

Soon I was out, and after refuelling my bike I decided to call my baby first to get first hand info from her. From her voice I knew she was in shock.. She passed the phone over to the other party and to the tauts present and soon, I had them towing the car back to Penang.

We met at a stop just after the bridge on the Island side and I was shocked to see the damage to the car. Thank you Allah for sparing my daughter.

At home she started to cry. I knew that she was holding back all this time and only decided to let go in the comfort of her family. She is still in shock. She did not get to see much of her favourite team's match against Seoul FC.

She is now asleep and from my desktop, I could see the hantarans (gifts for the boy) all laid out on the dining table ready for tomorrow. The happiness and sadness returns.

All things work for good to those who love their God ! Thank God that she is save and sound. The joy of her seeing her independent and married eventually is part of life. Enjoy the moment and savor the time together. Looking forward to her marriage next year and do remember to extend an invitation to us. We will make a trip to the pearl of the orient from S'gor to celebrate with you and family your joyous moment.

Salam,

Cikgu, Alhamdulillah she is a OK. A slight trauma, perhaps, but physically alright. Maybe its a sign for good tidings, insyAllah.

My best to her then, and her fiance.

Cikgu

Being a responsible father is never easy. The Chinese have a saying that once you are a father, you'll be one until the day you die. There is no optional abdication. And no party hopping... (maaflah, I can't help this jibe...:))

Anyway, thank God your daughter was safe and I would like to ucap tahniah to you on the happiness of your daughter.

Sir, congratulations. Comes a time when we have to let go. Our job as parents is to give them the best we can afford and when that is done it becomes somebody he/she chooses. I had to let Patrina go. I thought that I would enjoy her for at least two years after her graduation in Canada. But that too was not to be as she chose to be with Wayne in the Bahamas. I too liked Wayne and he is a good dad to my three grandsons. Congratulations to you and Mrs and also to the two young couple.

Alhamdulillah Ala Kulli Hal. As ShahCakapaje said, 'it's a sign of good tidings'.

Chegu, you have two Mikes commenting here. I'm the mamak Mike (short for IsMail Keling) ha..ha..

My friend too had a problem getting married. His mother was like so sad that another woman is taking him away.

I am sad because our public institutions have been derailed from their intended objectives.

Rosmah was/is sad too till she did'nt attend her daughter's wedding. Could you imagine the sadness? sob..sob..

Congratulations.

I know it is easier said than done but let go. Nature has this wonderful way of refreshing itself without considerations for the emotions that it built in us.

Emotions is our greatest failing without which I'm sure we would all be better people living in a better country and world but then where would be the fun and edge that makes us appreciate the short time we have on this world?

So much to do but so little time!

Take care Cikgu, if I may be allowed to call you this.

ahoo,
I am sure to invite my reader's wherever they maybe for the wedding and I am not saying that out of courtesy. It's from the bottom of my heart.

Actually the my son, son in law and also my future son in law are already quite close because they do meet often. We quite often go out for makans so no bullying here.

Bravo,
Just a few seconds ago I asked her if she saw the match and she saod her mind was off the radar completely last night. She is however happy coz her favourite player, Rooney, scored.

Memang pun I live hardly a km from the sea so I am safe from heart attack.

Unknown said...

Shah,
Thanx. She did admit that she was driving fast. Hopefully this be a lesson.

Unknown said...

Bayi,
Of course, there would be no party hopping and her political inclination, heck the whole houses's political inclination is the same as mine.
Thanx for the wish.

Unknown said...

Zorro,
Yes, I know. I left home myself and never really get to be with them anymore after that. Yes, that is life but I still don't like it. Unlike you, I am lucky in a way that after marriage they would live only about 10 minutes from home.

Hanief,
What else kalu bukan Proton Wira? Not that I am complaining but proton cars are simply too soft la.

Unknown said...

romerz,
Thanx for the visit. yes, life has a life of it's own and nothing we could do to take it of it's chosen track. Letting go is not the easiest thing to do but, do it, I must.

Of course you could call me cikgu. I am comfortable with it. Hey from 1977 to now, I have had thousands of students calling me that.

Unknown said...

Julian,
for the occasion, the spelling is just right.
Thanx for caring to comment.

accia,
Itu lah kehendak semua parent. Satu hari nanti you will find yourself the proud mother of a bride or a groom.

Unknown said...

Mike,
So I have another Mike. I wonder how a mother could detach herself of all emotions and love.

Cikgu...
tahniah le... saya mungkin tak dapatlah rasa perassan tu (bukan pasal kereta anak berlanggar tu)... sebab anak-anak saya (2 orang je walaupun saya pakai konsep stop at 2 am)... sekolah lagi dan dia orang tu semua jantan... tahniah sekali lagi....

...apa no kereta, nak 'chai'kan no tu...

D'ayo said...

Cikgu...

Nak tambah sikit lagi... adalah masa tu, kita orang laki bini dengar lagu 'Butterfly Kisses', saya beritahu dia, I tak leh rasa macam dalam lagu tu... dia jawap - blah, blah, tak de rezeki, blah, blah, nasib baik ada anak, blah, blah, orang lain tak de anak langsung pulak, blah, blah (panjang jugaklah dia jawap)... pas tu saya tanya (saja nak bergurau), how about kalau I kahwin lagi satu.... dia tak jawap... saya tahu dah, kalau saya tambah lagi 'gurau bodoh' tu, 3rd world war lah kat rumah I tu...

What an ordeal you went through.
Seeing the car was badly damaged and your little one is safe...no one else...but Allah...saved her....because you are an excellent father.
I have such experiences with my two daughters too..near death and were saved....and I never stop thanking God.
To me..give me millions means nothing. My daughters are priceless......so is yours too.
To me....it is also goodness begets goodness......so never stop helping anyone...in whatever ways you can.
Being a teacher...it is most noble and with a purpose in life....study their weak points and guide them.....besides teaching.
Know them well. Get their trust.
They may have no parents to talk to for advises.....like we have.
Take care KTN.
