Stormtroopers

I just don't get it. We are living in the 21st century and we still have babis shouting Cina babi. The real babi are the Melayus shouting Cina babi and asking them to go back to China.

Shit man, they are born here and are as much a citizen of this country as you are. Okay, so you are angry that they are discussing something very sensitive. Hey, I felt uncomfortable too. Yes, I do believe it was something that they should handle more sensitively but what they have discussed should not be something that should not be discussed at all.

As long as the discussion is done sensitively without ulterior motives and discussed by people who are not out to get any mileage by it, by all means do it in the best way possible.

So you are angry because you feel very strongly for your religion. I feel very strongly for my religion too which is incidentally the same religion as yours. You storm the place and displayed a behaviour that is frowned upon by the very religion you are trying to defend.

If you want to defend Islam, then do it the Islamic way. Islam does not ask you to storm a meeting and brand those attending the meetings 'babi'. Islam does not ask you to deny someone the citizenship of his country of birth.

As much as I am uncomfortable with what was happening in the room and as much as I was and still am in the dark as to the motives of the organisers, I do not condone the behaviour of the so-called defenders of Islam.

Anyway, I think that whatever it is they wanted to hold was ill-timed and the behaviour of the stormtroopers shameful.

Next time when you want to do something, do it the Islamic way.

i am a malay kid.i also feel insulted and digusted when people from of my own race act that way.the chinese and the indians all are apart from Malaysian community.no need to downgrade and name-calling.

like you,i am also in grey of what this "forum memeluk islam" is all about.

then again, shouting and calling people "babi" neither respectable nor islamic.

I am so sad la, Cikgu.I have had really close Malay and Indian friends all my life and now someone calls me babi and asks me to go back to China? For goodness sakes .. I can't even speak Mandarin and have never stepped on Chinese soil. I am 4th generation Malaysian and my children are 5th generation and our loyalties lie with THIS country of our birth. Why can't people understand? I can't help it if I was not born a Malay. Not my choice is it?

Chegu! Bila dengaq ni I was so horrified. Ini laa problem orang Melayu, depa tak sedar Islam is Islam and Melayu is Melayu. These people mouthing racist slogans are confused, that's all. Genetically, if they care to map their DNA they'd be surprised there's Chinese and Indian elements in their alleles. Itu depa tak tengok. Haprak. I'm Melayu too, but it's no big deal. Turun dari Mongoloid jugak sebab hidung tak mancung ke, atau dari lanun ke, apa nak buat. That's all in the past. Depa kena dok kat negara tetangga baru tau. Orang nama David, warak gila. In Malaysia, orang nama Muhammad sering melakukan perkara yang membawa image Islam hancur. Bila kita nak maju macam ni?

Calling the chinese, babi and balik China, I am not offended because it was from the rowdy racist pig themselves.

Using Islam as an excuse to disrupt and threatening others from having mature discussion, then I am offended, because as my limited understanding of the religion itself, it is never a violent one to start with.

From what I read, the forum also involved Muslim scholars and I think discussion and presentation of different views is a small step to understanding each other better. Without it, how can we learn from each other?

As long as we remain level headed and treat this as hypocrites at play, we just let it pass by.

I still believe in the creation of Bangsa Malaysia one day.

I think the motive of the forum was to address issues faced by the non muslim families when one of them converts into Islam, especially problems faced by non muslims spouses recently....

Well, Bar Council could have named it differently or taken an effort to explain the motives..

Of course our 'beloved' leaders shouldn't have fanned the sentiments either .. I thought they were leaders for all of us...well obviously not...

And you know what, we (non malays) are so so used to calls of 'balik cina', balik india' etc by the people who profess to be 'good' muslims....

Maybe they should go back to religious schools and learn what it means to be a true Muslim....

And what did the police do when all these happened?..Just stood and watched....

And these are the very people whom we (non malays) think will protect us....tsk tsk....

that's the problem with Malay Muslim... easier said than done... sometimes (perhaps all the times), the way they act, the way the say something, the way they write is not reflecting Islam... sometimes they feel that they are the greatest imam of the world but come to an event they rub shoulder and put their hand on woman's hip, etc...

erggghhhh... i'm with you la cikgu...

KTN,
Aku dah lama percaya almost all Malaysian racist. Kita semua racist. Ramai my Chinese friends hope Malaysia athlete perform di olimpik, but they also support China. Ramai juga yang berbangga dengan opening ceremony yang gilang gemilang. Kalau betul2 mereka rasa mereka Malaysian, why they should proud with People Republic of China?

I want to ask you one simple question, somebody ask me same question last week.

You consider yourself as Malay or Malaysian?

Tolong jangan bagi jawapan Malaysian Malay. Hahahaha...

But to call someone, not just Chinese or Indian with babi, anjing or any other nasty words memang tak bagus.

Salam Cikgu,

Yup! Could not agree with you more. The way it was done, its putting in more hatred than respect, which makes me suspect that there are some sinister figures behind both sides.

I use to comment at every blogs I read. But for once, I kata tak nak. haha.. I really lost of words lah on this. Because I am a Malaysian !

these fellas are real jackasses la. maybe its time they carry out on a simpler method to work for a better malaysia; watch and support our badminton squad currently playing their guts out for our nation's sake. that should do the trick.

To all commenters,
I think the best answer to all this is Kerp's comment. Lets start being Malaysian. No ones's asking anybody to to not be Malays or Chinese or Indians. Thats impossible but what the heck man. We are going to celebrate 52 years independence for God's sake.

As for Shah's suspicions, I am with you. There is something sinister here. Not because they do it but because why pick now to have it. Things are all murky as it is. Can't we wait for a while, just a little while more?

Mr. Right,
I am a a Malay Muslim Malaysian or let me correct that, I am a Muslim Malay Malaysian so being Muslim supersedes everything.

I watched the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympic. I am not proud of the host country but I am damn proud of the people putting up such a dazzling performance with remarkable precision. I wonder our highly acclaimed and towering space tourist could survive suspending high above the stadium, running around the upper rim of the arena, and igniting torch.

Even if we believe that the organisers were not right in holding an open forum on a sensitive issue, charging in to hijack the forum like stormtroopers wouldn't have made the situation right. Two wrongs don't make one right. The action reminds me of how DSAI was arrested by policemen in masks behaving like commandos.

Exemplery behaviour is the best way to shame the organisers and make them aware of their insensitivity, and not by bringing in the goons.

I am amused by the loonies who have resorted to such violent means.

What makes them think that they can easily called or downgrade somebody by calling names.
If they themselves are standing behind religion, religion that they themselves uphold, then I certainly fail to see any religious values projected through them. This is not the way to deal with conflict.

Thank you very much for the kindness and compassion. You have shown me what a true Muslim is and the virtues of Islam is espoused here.

You have shown us what a good Muslim is and we respect the Muslims and Islam.

ok.. never been much about street protest but can we get pass your feelings towards the stormtroopers, please? the forum is still the main issue, you know. calling other people "babi"? wow.. the whole lot of them chanting that, is it? condemn ALL of them for that remarks? well, the way people have been looking at the issue was as if ALL of them are shouting "babi" and ALL of them are RUDE and ANGRY. aa.. were you actually there?

anyway, condemn the protesters all you want but at least that is how they felt and they don't hide it.

can you actually start commenting ABOUT the forum? thanks.

Barulah kita dihormati...

Anonymous,
Did I ever say that they all shouted 'babi', did I? Didn't I say that I have my reservations about the forum itself and for your information, its not that I think it should not be held but the timing is not right.

My intention is to comment on the stormtroopers and I did it. If I had intended to comment about the forum, then I would and whether I write about it or not is my personal business, this is after all by blog.

Those people who stormed the forum shouldn't vent their anhger that way because that is not the way Muslims should behave.

Are you saying that I could only write about w3hat I actually see and hear abd should not write if I were not there?

Now let me tell you something. I am still going to write about what is being reported though I am not there and if you do not like it, stay away from my blog, that's all.

well, some people feels that if they stand behind the name of their religion or what they are 'fighting for' is for their religion then they are entitled to do all out.
They seem to forget what and why they stand there at the first place.
such a sad situation..
and from people like them that their religion gain bad image..

Chegu,
People who call others 'babi' are the real babis. I am too sad to say more.

Unknown said...

Siti,
Itu lah yang sebenarnya yang saya nak ketengahkan. Thanx

redbag,
These people actually have dother motives which is political.

Unknown said...

Pak Zawi,
Yes, sad isn't it. Why can't we fight fire with water?

They probably believe they are doing the right thing. And to do anything less would not be right. People do the thing they do because they believe in what they believe in - and you can't convince them to believe otherwise. I just hope that all this won't explode into a full-scale violence, the kind I've seen in a lot of places I've been. But you know what? I believe one day all this will explode into a sectarian violence that will make everyone realize that all this is not about race or religion. It's about politics someone somewhere is playing as if all this is a game.

If you ask me, Malaysia now has turned into a completely politicized nation. Which is not good because a country like this is a time-bomb ticking away fast.

Islam is beautiful...and they never teach you to offend others. In fact, all religion teach the good things, according to each beliefs. Period.

Those are fanatics...products of UMNO and PAS.
I am sure......especially UMNO is very proud of their achievements in producing.. such type of Malaysians.
But vast majority Muslims are now...hanging their heads in shame....trusting UMNO.
Let the coming by-election..speaks for Malaysians.

Unknown said...

Bergen,
I had always had this suspicion that all this is more political than anything else.
Yes, I agree, this is not good but then do those people care?
Pity what people would do.

Ydiana,
