Happy Birthday Meiji

Meiji

When my wife first told me she was pregnant, I did not make it a secret that I had wished it was was a girl. I don't know why but I really wanted a girl for my first.

The name was discussed between my wife and I and of course like all young parents at that time we had a long list containing names for boys and girls. No, no scanning so we really were in the dark as to the sex of the child.

My late mother in law was never one to meddle in my marriage life but she did whisper to my wife that she had fallen in love with the name of one of my neighbour's daughters so we reserved that name if it was a girl.

It could be that in Penang that name that my late mother in law fell in love with was quite rare at that time but in Kelantan, it was like a dime a dozen, very common.

To shorten things up, my wife delivered our first born at the Penang Maternity Hospital. We got a healthy baby girl who we duly named Marziah, the name of my mother in law's choice.

The date was 21/08/80. Yes, today is her 28th birthday. She is now of course married but is not a mother yet.

She may be 28, the eldest of the three children that I have but in our eyes she is still our baby, our first baby.

Happy Birthday Meiji, as she is affectionately called, and may you live a long and happy life.

Your mom, sister, brother and I love you very much. Happy Birthday baby.

Kerp,
Thanx for the greetings, I am sure she appreciates it. She may be 28 but she still acts like a baby.

Salam Ck Gu

My guess is that as long we are alive to no matter what age, our children would always be our baby in our eye, no matter how grown up they have been

Salam Cikgu,

Your article brought tears to my eyes. As a mother of three, I share the same feelings as you towards my children. And as a 47 year old daughter, to my parents,I am still their baby. I guess we'll always be our parents' babies.

Happy Birthday Marziah.

Salam Cikgu,

Alamak! My apologies for being late...as ever. But its quite unbelievable that you have a beautiful grown-up daughter already. Makes someone feel like he's very late boarding the bus, or that it broke down somewhere and the depot cannot spare any for this route.

To Cik Marziah Nazir, may Allah protect and guide you to a blessed life in this world and the hereafter. Counting the years, only make a person better. Happy Birthday Cik Marziah :)

ps. You are one lucky daughter to have a father in Cikgu :)

Agreed! She's one 'cun giler' lady but forever will always be a baby to you. Sulong la katakan.

Meiji? The only Meiji I know is in the annals (alaamak, that word again) of Japanese history: The Meiji Restoration.

Give her my wishes too chegu!

P.S. Tell us what SHE thinks of the excellent tribute to her in this post, ok chegu? Curious to know what she feels...

Normal people would think like that but there are those who throw away newborns as if they are used diapers. Aren't these people human?

anonymous,
You are lucky you still have parents to whom you are baby. I do miss my parents even though I am already 2 scores and a dozen years old.

Such a lovely daughter you have. I thought that her nick was related to the Meiji milk formula that you might have fed her. My wife and kids refer to her mum/grandma as "meiji". Do pass the best wishes of the day to her and thanks for sharing such a beautiful moment in your life with us. A wonderful respite from the trash that is aired currently in Malaysia.
